Auto-Create Salesforce Records

Auto-Create Salesforce Records

Auto-Create automatically creates a new Salesforce record when a matching Jira issue is created. The new record is linked to the issue immediately, so the team can push and pull data from day one — without anyone manually searching for or creating the Salesforce record.

How It Works

The connector registers a Forge trigger (avi:jira:created:issue) that fires when a Jira issue is created. On each fire:

  1. The trigger checks whether the issue's project has any bindings with Auto-Create enabled.

  2. For each qualifying binding, it checks whether the issue type matches an entity mapping.

  3. If matched, and if no Salesforce record is already linked, the connector applies the Jira → Salesforce field mappings and calls the Salesforce REST API to create a new record.

  4. The newly created record is automatically linked to the Jira issue — no manual link step needed.

Enabling Auto-Create

Auto-Create is disabled by default. Enable it per binding in Sync Settings.

Enable it when you want every new Jira issue of a matching type to have a corresponding Salesforce record created automatically — for example:

  • Every new Bug in a support project → creates a Case in Salesforce

  • Every new Story in a sales-engineering project → creates a Lead

What Gets Created

The new Salesforce record is populated with the field values from the Jira issue at creation time, using the entity mapping's Jira → Salesforce field mappings. If no field mappings are configured, the record is created with minimal data (name/subject derived from the issue summary where possible).

If Auto-Create Fails

If the Salesforce API returns an error (for example, a required Salesforce field has no mapped Jira value), the creation fails silently — a log entry is written but no error is shown to the user who created the Jira issue. You can always link a record manually after the fact.

Deduplication

If a Salesforce record is already linked to the issue (for example, it was linked manually before the trigger fired), Auto-Create does not create a second record — it skips the creation step.
